THE FOOL
The fool amasses wealth, finding his worth in material gain, acquiring titles, vying for ever higher position in employment, and lusting after authority over others. Knowing not the truth, he lives in overabundance.
The wise man eschews wealth, living a life of spirituality. He casts off the bonds of rich and poor, what little wealth he acquires is given in charity. Rejecting titles and earthly success, he gains insight in meditation. Perceiving the truth, God smiles on him, he does not need a home or money.
The fool is enslaved to the lusts of the body. He says, knowing not the truth, my measure is in the beauty of my wife. He amasses children and worldly attachments, knowing not they cannot help him in the life to come.
The wise man is satisfied in himself. He does not need lovers or wives, he bears no children, having few attachments. He lives the holy life, eschewing lust, controlling himself. He brings not children into the suffering of this world, knowing peace, he is favored by God.
The fool is quick to anger when struck, his wrath is mighty, and he brings swift revenge. He brings tenfold what he has endured upon his victim, leaving him suffering in prison. He knows not forgiveness, nor perceives the wisdom of being peaceful when struck. Stuck in the wheel of vengeance, he repays pain for pain.
The wise man does not retaliate when struck, knowing this will only worsen the cycle of hatred. He does not seek vengeance, or the violence of the state, nor even does he flee, he fears for the soul of his aggressor, and meets violence with peace.
The fool clings to this earthly life, like the dog clings to his favorite bone. The wise man will attain the rewards of heaven. The fool amasses treasures in this life, he will find no rest in the life to come.
Having attained enlightenment, his journey ended, the wise man finds glory in the life to come. The path of the fool is long and winding, his end is empty. Leaving behind a white tombstone. He will be reborn again and again, never escaping this life.
